Community Offshore Wind, ein Joint Venture zwischen RWE Renewables und National Grid, hat Fugro einen Auftrag zur Offshore-Erkundung erteilt, um die Standortbewertung und Konzeptdesign-Aktivitäten in der New Yorker Bucht zu unterstützen.

(WK-intern) – Die Vermessungsarbeiten werden in diesem Jahr beginnen, wobei die meisten im Jahr 2023 durchgeführt werden und die geophysikalischen und Umweltbedingungen innerhalb des 510 km2 großen Pachtgebiets detailliert beschreiben.

Dieser beschleunigte Projektplan wird Community Offshore Wind dabei helfen, die Stromgestehungskosten zu senken und das Offshore-Windpotenzial des Standorts auszuschöpfen, das eine geschätzte Kapazität von 3 GW hat, genug, um 1,1 Millionen US-Haushalte mit Strom zu versorgen.

Fugro, das von einem lokalen Hafen aus operiert, stellt dem Projekt zwei Schiffe zur Verfügung. Vermessungsteams werden am Rumpf montierte Sensoren verwenden, um flächendeckende Geodaten über und unter der Oberfläche über das Pachtgebiet bis zu einer Nenntiefe von 15 m unter dem Meeresboden zu generieren. Während tiefere unterirdische Geodaten in Zielgebieten für den Grundbau weiterhin erforderlich sein werden, wird der Vermessungsansatz von Fugro es Community Offshore Wind ermöglichen, ein geotechnisches Programm vor den Standardentwicklungszeitplänen zu beginnen. Vermessungs-Geodaten und Beratungsdienste für das Projekt werden durch Fugros regionales Kompetenzzentrum für Offshore-Windkraft in Norfolk, Virginia, bereitgestellt.

Fugro strengthens leading position in US offshore wind market

Community Offshore Wind, a joint venture between RWE Renewables and National Grid, has awarded Fugro an offshore survey contract to support site appraisal and concept design activities in the New York Bight. Survey work will commence this year with the majority being executed in 2023, detailing geophysical and environmental conditions within the 510 km2 lease area. This accelerated project schedule will help Community Offshore Wind reduce the levelised cost of energy and realise the site’s offshore wind potential, which has an estimated capacity of 3 GW, enough to power 1. 1 million US homes.

Operating from a local port, Fugro is dedicating two vessels to the project. Survey teams will utilise hull-mounted sensors to generate full-coverage surface and subsurface Geo-data over the lease area to a nominal depth of 15 m below the seafloor. While deeper subsurface Geo-data will still be required in targeted areas for foundation engineering, Fugro’s survey approach will enable Community Offshore Wind to commence a geotechnical programme ahead of standard development schedules. Survey Geo-data and consultancy services for the project will be delivered through Fugro’s regional centre of expertise for offshore wind, located in Norfolk, Virginia.
