Wien – Erste Group Bank AG unterstützt Finanzierung eines wegweisenden Windparkprojekts in Rumänien

• Bankenkonsortium stellt Rezolv Energy und Low Carbon bis zu 291 Mio. EUR für die erste Phase des Windparkprojekts in Rumänien zur Verfügung
• Die erste Phase des VIFOR-Projekts umfasst eine 192-MW-Installation, in der zweiten Phase ist eine Erweiterung auf 461 MW geplant

(WK-intern) – Erste Group Bank AG (Erste Group) und ihre rumänische Tochtergesellschaft Banca Comercială Română (BCR) sind führende Mitglieder des Konsortiums aus Geschäftsbanken und internationalen Finanzinstituten, das bis zu 291 Mio. EUR für die erste Phase des VIFOR-Windparkprojekts in Rumänien bereitgestellt hat.

Rezolv Energy und Low Carbon haben über ihre Projekttochter First Looks Solutions S.R.L. Finanzkredite in Höhe von bis zu 291 Mio. EUR gesichert, um den Bau der ersten Phase von VIFOR, einem großen Windparkprojekt in Rumänien, zu unterstützen.

Das Konsortium der finanzierenden Banken wurde von der Erste Group, der UniCredit International Bank und der Europäischen Bank für Wiederaufbau und Entwicklung (EBWE) angeführt, dem sich Banca Comercială Română, die Internationale Finanz-Corporation (IFC), Intesa Sanpaolo, Všeobecná úverová banka, OTP Bank, Raiffeisen Bank International und Garanti BBVA Romania anschlossen.

Das VIFOR-Projekt ergänzt die Erfolgsbilanz der Erste Group und ihrer lokalen Tochterbanken bei der Unterstützung der Energiewende in der CEE-Region, wo sie seit mehr als einem Jahrzehnt die Entwicklung der Windenergie mit langfristigen Projektfinanzierungen unterstützen. Zu den jüngsten Transaktionen der Erste Group im Bereich der erneuerbaren Energien gehört die führende Rolle bei der Finanzierung von Projekten so bedeutender Branchenteilnehmer wie Eurowind (der 48-MW-Windpark Pecineaga in Rumänien), GoldenPeaks (ein 64,5-MW-Solar-PV-Portfolio in Ungarn), Enlight (der 94-MW-Windpark Pupin in Serbien) und Baltic Power (ein 1.140-MW-Offshore-Windpark in Polen).

VIFOR wird 270.000 Haushalte mit sauberer Energie versorgen

In der ersten Phase des VIFOR-Projekts werden 192 MW Leistung installiert, die durch drei wegweisende kommerzielle Stromabnahmeverträge (PPAs) abgesichert sind. Die Bauarbeiten sollen innerhalb von 18 Monaten abgeschlossen sein und der Windpark soll vor Ende 2025 in Betrieb gehen. In Phase 2 soll eine geplante Erweiterung auf 461 MW erfolgen.

Nach der vollständigen Inbetriebnahme wird VIFOR einer der größten Onshore-Windparks Europas sein und eine Gesamtfläche von 2.869 Hektar im Kreis Buzău nordöstlich von Bukarest umfassen. In der Nähe der Karpaten gelegen und von außergewöhnlichen Winderträgen profitierend, wird das Projekt genug saubere Energie erzeugen, um mehr als 270.000 Haushalte mit Strom zu versorgen und jährlich etwa 180.000 Tonnen CO2e einzusparen. Das Projekt wird Rumänien dabei unterstützen, seine Klimaziele zu erreichen und eine wichtige Rolle bei der Energiewende der Region spielen.

Der Nachhaltigkeit verpflichtet

Bei der Genehmigung der Kredite für Phase eins von VIFOR würdigten die Banken des Konsortiums Rezolvs Ansatz zur Nachhaltigkeit, der auf bewährten Praktiken der Branche aufbaut und internationalen Standards entspricht, darunter den Äquatorprinzipien und den Umwelt- und Sozialleistungsstandards der IFC. Eine seiner Säulen ist das Streben, sicherzustellen, dass jedes seiner Kraftwerke für erneuerbare Energien blühende und nachhaltige Ökosysteme unterstützt.

Neben den Umweltvorteilen wird VIFOR sowohl während des Baus als auch während des Betriebs lokale Arbeitsplätze schaffen, der lokalen Gemeinschaft wirtschaftliche Vorteile bringen und Gemeinschaftsinitiativen im Kreis Buzău unterstützen, die darauf abzielen, sicherzustellen, dass das Projekt ein dauerhaftes, positives Erbe für die lokale Bevölkerung hinterlässt.

Erste Group Bank AG (Erste Group) and its Romanian subsidiary Banca Comercială Română (BCR) are leading members of the consortium of commercial banks and international financial institutions that has provided up to EUR 291 million in funding for the first phase of the VIFOR wind farm project in Romania.

Rezolv Energy and Low Carbon, through their project subsidiary First Looks Solutions S.R.L., have secured finance loan facilities of up to EUR 291 million to support the Phase 1 construction of VIFOR, a major wind farm project located in Romania. The consortium of financing banks was led by Erste Group, UniCredit International Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), joined by Banca Comercială Română, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Intesa Sanpaolo, Všeobecná úverová banka, OTP Bank, Raiffeisen Bank International, and Garanti BBVA Romania.

The VIFOR project adds to the track record that Erste Group and its local banking subsidiaries have in aiding the energy transition in the CEE region, where they have been supporting the development of wind energy with long-term project financing for more than a decade. Erste Group’s recent transactions in the renewable energy sphere include playing a leading role in financing projects from such prominent industry participants as Eurowind (the 48 MW Pecineaga wind farm in Romania), GoldenPeaks (a 64.5 MW solar PV portfolio in Hungary), Enlight (the 94 MW Pupin wind farm in Serbia), and Baltic Power (a 1,140 MW offshore wind farm in Poland).

VIFOR to provide clean energy for 270,000 households

The first phase of the VIFOR project will install 192 MW in capacity underpinned by three landmark commercial power purchase agreements (PPAs). Construction is scheduled to be completed within 18 months, with the wind farm coming onstream before the end of 2025. A planned expansion to 461 MW will take place in Phase 2.

Once fully operational, VIFOR will be one of Europe’s largest onshore wind farms, covering a total area of 2,869 hectares in Buzău County, north-east of Bucharest. Close to the Carpathian Mountains and benefiting from exceptional wind yields, the project will generate enough clean energy to power more than 270,000 homes and will avoid approximately 180,000 tonnes of CO2e annually. The project will support Romania in meeting its climate targets and play an important role in the region’s energy transition.

In approving the loans for VIFOR’s phase one, the consortium’s banks acknowledged Rezolv’s approach to sustainability, which has been built on industry best practice and adheres to international standards, including the Equator Principles and the IFC’s Environmental and Social Performance Standards. One of its pillars is striving to ensure that each of its renewable energy plants supports flourishing and sustainable ecosystems.

In addition to the environmental benefits, VIFOR will create local jobs both during construction and operation, deliver economic benefits to the local community, and support community initiatives in Buzău County aimed at ensuring that the project leaves a lasting, positive legacy for local people.
