IGCC findet Indikatoren des globalen Klimawandels die in der Computersimulationen berücksichtigt werden können

(WK-intern) – Die Initiative „Indicators of Global Climate Change“ (IGCC) stellt Aktualisierungen mehrerer wichtiger globaler Klimaindikatoren bereit, die vom Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) gemeldet wurden und uns helfen können, den Zustand des Klimasystems und seine Veränderungen zu verstehen.

Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Bereitstellung aktueller Schätzungen politikrelevanter globaler Klimaindikatoren, die die Kausalkette von den Emissionen bis zur Erwärmung verfolgen, einschließlich der Treibhausgasemissionen, der vom Menschen verursachten Erwärmung und des verbleibenden globalen Kohlenstoffbudgets.

Auf diese Weise führt IGCC zeitnahe Informationen zusammen, die eine effektive Klimaentscheidungsfindung auf auffindbare, zugängliche, nachvollziehbare und reproduzierbare Weise unterstützen können.

Die zur Aktualisierung der Indikatoren verwendeten Methoden sind direkt auf den Sechsten Sachstandsbericht des IPCC (AR6) zurückzuführen. Die zugrunde liegende Publikation, die diese Methoden beschreibt und auch weiteren Kontext und Hintergrund bietet.

IGCC arbeitet auch mit dem Climate Change Tracker zusammen, um eine zuverlässige, benutzerfreundliche Plattform für die Verfolgung, Visualisierung und das Verständnis dieser Indikatoren bereitzustellen, die sich an politische Entscheidungsträger richtet, aber offen und für alle zugänglich ist.

Indicators of Global Climate Change

• So far, the billions of euros in CO2 taxes have warmed the climate rather than cooled it
• The CO2 tax must be used more for further computer simulations
• We also need more climate institutes that provide the policy-relevant global climate results
• Climate deniers must be made public to protect global warming

The Indicators of Global Climate Change (IGCC) initiative is providing updates of several key global climate indicators reported by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that can help us to understand the state of the climate system and how it is changing.

The focus is on providing up-to-date estimates of policy-relevant global climate indicators that follow the causal chain from emissions to warming, including greenhouse gas emissions, human induced warming and the remaining global carbon budget.

In doing so, IGCC brings together timely information that can support effective climate decision-making in a findable, accessible, traceable and reproducible way.

The methodologies used to update the indicators are directly traceable back to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). The underpinning publication which describes these methodologies, and also provides further context and background.

IGCC is also working with the Climate Change Tracker to provide a reliable, user-friendly platform for tracking, visualising and understanding these indicators, aimed at policy-makers but open and accessible to all.

About IGCC

The speed and extent of climate change that the world is now experiencing highlights the need for urgent climate action in this critical decade.

Decisions need to be based on trusted, reliable and timely information, but when it comes to the key climate system indicators set out in Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports, there is an information gap between one IPCC assessment cycle and the next.

The Indicators of Global Climate Change (IGCC) initiative, an international science community effort established in 2023, is addressing this information gap by providing annual updates of key climate indicators featured in the most recent IPCC report cycle (the Sixth Assessment or AR6).

The effort was self organised by a group of 50 international scientists from 40 different universities and government laboratories. The group includes many authors from the IPCC sixth assessment cycle (AR6) and earlier reports. It also includes the AR6 Working Group I co-chairs Valerie Masson-Delmotte and Panmao Zhai as well as Anna Pirani – head of the IPCC Working Group I technical support unit.

Alongside greenhouse gas emissions, human-induced warming and the remaining global carbon budget, IGCC also provides updated estimates of atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations, radiative forcing, changes in surface temperature, and the Earth’s energy imbalance, and global temperature extremes. All of these are important indicators of climate change in their own right.

Updating these climate indicators annually will support wider understanding of the climate system and human influence upon it, and the overall direction of travel, whilst the next IPCC assessment is being prepared.

As IGCC’s approach is rooted in the methods used in IPCC AR6, the annual publications will also allow for greater transparency as the science advances and methodologies are updated between IPCC reports.
