Tohoku Electric Power und BW Ideol erhalten ClassNK-Genehmigung für schwimmendes Offshore-Windkraftsystem mit 15 MW Leistung vor Kuji

(WK-intern) – Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. und BW Ideol haben von der Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) eine grundsätzliche Genehmigung (AiP) für die Entwicklung eines schwimmenden Offshore-Windkraftsystems erhalten.

Das System besteht aus einer schwimmenden Unterkonstruktion in Form eines Betonpontons, die für eine Windkraftanlage der 15-MW-Klasse ausgelegt ist.

Seit Mai 2022 führen Tohoku Electric Power und BW Ideol gemeinsam Machbarkeitsstudien durch, um ein schwimmendes Offshore-Windkraftprojekt vor der Küste von Kuji in der Präfektur Iwate zu realisieren. Die Genehmigung ist Teil dieser Bemühungen. Das schwimmende Offshore-Windkraftsystem, für das die Genehmigung gilt, ist speziell auf die Umweltbedingungen vor Kuji zugeschnitten und basiert auf der patentierten Damping Pool®-Technologie von BW Ideol. Die schwimmende Unterkonstruktion besteht aus Beton und eignet sich daher für die Serienproduktion. Für die Verankerung wurde ein hybrides Verankerungssystem mit Kunstfaserseilen und Stahlketten ausgewählt.

BW Ideol erhielt bereits im Mai 2025 von DNV die Basic Design Certification für seine standardisierte, bargeartige Schwimmstruktur zur Aufnahme von Windkraftanlagen der 15-MW-Klasse. Diese Struktur wies eine hohe technische Zuverlässigkeit gemäß internationaler Standards auf. Die Erlangung dieser neuen AiP-Zertifizierung von ClassNK, einer führenden Zertifizierungsstelle in Japan, bestätigt die Eignung und Zuverlässigkeit der Struktur für den globalen und japanischen Markt.

Zukünftig werden beide Unternehmen gemeinsam eine Machbarkeitsstudie vor der Küste von Kuji in der Präfektur Iwate auf Basis der Damping Pool®-Technologie von BW Ideol durchführen. Mit diesen Bemühungen zur Kommerzialisierung der schwimmenden Offshore-Windenergieerzeugung werden sie aktiv den Ausbau erneuerbarer Energien in Japan vorantreiben.

Tohoku Electric Power and BW Ideol Secure ClassNK AiP for 15MW Floating Offshore Wind Turbine System off Kuji City

Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. and BW Ideol have obtained Approval in Principle (AiP) from the Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) for the design of a floating offshore wind turbine system. This system features a concrete barge-type floating substructure designed to accommodate a 15MW-class wind turbine.

Tohoku Electric Power and BW Ideol have been jointly conducting feasibility studies since May 2022 with the aim of commercializing a floating offshore wind power project in offshore Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture. This AiP acquisition is part of those efforts. The floating offshore wind turbine system covered by this AiP is specifically designed to meet the environmental conditions off Kuji City and is based on BW Ideol’s patented Damping Pool® technology. The floating substructure is made of concrete, which is expected to suit mass production, and a hybrid mooring system using synthetic fiber rope and steel catenary chains has been selected for the mooring system.

BW Ideol had already obtained Basic Design Certification from DNV in May 2025 for its standardized barge-type floating structure designed to accommodate 15MW-class wind turbines, which demonstrated high technical reliability based on international standards. The acquisition of this new AiP from ClassNK, a leading certification body in Japan, further confirms its suitability and reliability for both global and Japanese markets.

Moving forward, both companies will jointly advance a feasibility study off the coast of Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture, based on BW Ideol’s Damping Pool® technology. Through these efforts to commercialize floating offshore wind power generation, they will actively pursue the expansion of renewable energy adoption in Japan.
