Das Wachstum der Offshore-Windkraft geht weiter

(WK-intern) – „Die Gesamtzahlen spiegeln wider, dass die Offshore-Windenergie trotz eines turbulenten Branchenjahres deutlich auf dem Vormarsch ist“, sagt WFO-Geschäftsführer Gunnar Herzig.

Dem Bericht zufolge wurden im Jahr 2023 25 neue Offshore-Windparks mit einer Gesamtkapazität von 9,8 Gigawatt (GW) in Betrieb genommen, wodurch sich die weltweite Offshore-Windkapazität auf insgesamt 67,4 GW erhöhte.

„Wir sehen, dass das globale Offshore-Windwachstum im Vergleich zu den 9,4 GW, die im Jahr 2022 installiert wurden, leicht zugenommen hat“, erklärt Herzig.

Spitzenreiter bleibt China mit einer Gesamtkapazität von 31,5 GW in Betrieb und 6,3 GW im Bau. Der Bericht zeigt auch positive Entwicklungen in Europa: Frankreich hat mit dem Saint-Brieuc-Projekt (496 MW) seine Gesamtkapazität von 482 MW auf 978 MW mehr als verdoppelt. Norwegen hat Hywind Tampen in Betrieb genommen – mit seinen 88 MW der bisher größte schwimmende Offshore-Windpark.

Bei den im Bau befindlichen Offshore-Windparks liegen Großbritannien und Taiwan mit 3,9 GW bzw. 2,4 GW deutlich hinter China.
„Während gestiegene Kosten und Engpässe in der Lieferkette sehr ernst genommen werden müssen, spüren wir als WFO jeden Tag die positive Stimmung der Offshore-Windindustrie. Wir werden den Austausch und die Zusammenarbeit weiter fördern, um Offshore-Windenergie zu einer der weltweit führenden Quellen erneuerbarer Energien zu machen“, sagt Herzig.

World Forum Offshore Wind (WFO) published its Global Offshore Wind Report for 2023 today. “The overall numbers reflect that – despite a bumpy year for the industry – offshore wind energy is clearly on the rise”, says WFO’s managing director Gunnar Herzig.

According to the report, 25 new offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 9.8 gigawatts (GW) were taken into operation in 2023, increasing the global offshore wind capacity to a total of 67.4 GW. “We see that the global offshore wind growth slightly increased in comparison to the 9.4 GW installed in 2022”, Herzig explains.

China remains the front runner with a total capacity of 31.5 GW up and running and 6.3 GW currently under construction. The report also shows positive developments in Europe: France more than doubled its total capacity from 482 MW to 978 MW with the Saint-Brieuc project (496 MW). Norway took Hywind Tampen into operation – with its 88 MW the largest floating offshore wind farm so far.

In terms of offshore wind farms under construction, the UK and Taiwan are following China in considerable distance with 3.9 GW and 2.4 GW, respectively.
“While increased costs and supply chain bottlenecks must be taken very seriously, we as WFO feel the positive spirit of the offshore wind industry every day. We will continue to foster exchange and collaboration to make offshore wind one of the world’s leading sources of renewable energy”, Herzig says.
