Vestas receives 77 MW order from MidAmerican Energy to repower wind project in the USA

Vestas has received a 77 MW order to repower the Pocahontas Prairie wind project in Iowa, U.S., owned by MidAmerican Energy.

With this order, and including previously purchased 2 MW platform components, Vestas will repower the site’s existing Gamesa G90-2.0MW turbines with 24 V110-2.0 MW and 16 V110-2.2 MW wind turbines, for a full project capacity of 83 MW.

With the world’s largest installed capacity and service base, Vestas is uniquely positioned to harness operational and technical insights gained from the largest wind data repository in the world, to develop repowering solutions for Vestas and non-Vestas wind turbines alike.

“We’re pleased to partner with MidAmerican Energy to repower their Pocahontas Prairie wind project, and use new technology to bring extended life to the project, bringing low-cost and reliable wind energy to the community for the long-term”, said Jeff Fuchs, Vice President of Sales for Vestas in North America.

Repowering offers solutions for asset owners facing the higher operation and maintenance costs of an aging fleet and mitigates the complexities of sourcing spare parts for obsolete technology.

The order includes supply, installation, and commissioning of the turbines as well as multi-year Active Output Management 4000 (AOM 4000) service agreement, designed to ensure optimised performance of the asset.Turbine delivery will begin in the second quarter of 2021 with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.
