(WK-intern) – Schenectady: GE Vernova gab heute bekannt, dass es 50 Millionen US-Dollar in sein Werk in Schenectady, NY, investieren und etwa 200 neue Vollzeitmitarbeiter einstellen wird, darunter qualifizierte Gewerkschaftsvertreter, Fertigungsingenieure und Führungskräfte an vorderster Front, um ein Unternehmen zu gründen neue Montagelinie für das Onshore-Windkraftgeschäft.

Am Standort werden drei Schlüsselkomponenten für die 6,1-MW-Turbine von GE Vernova montiert.

Die Fertigungsmontagelinie wird in dem Gebäude installiert, in dem GE Vernova heute weiterhin Dampfturbinen und Generatoren herstellt, und soll bis zum Sommer 2023 fertiggestellt sein, wobei die ersten Komponenten bis zum Frühherbst produziert werden sollen.

Die jüngste Verabschiedung des Inflation Reduction Act hat bei der heutigen Ankündigung eine wichtige Rolle gespielt, da sie den Markt belebt, die Nachfrage nach erneuerbaren Energien erhöht und Energiesicherheit und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit ermöglicht. Der Staat New York hat außerdem zugestimmt, bis zu 2,5 Millionen US-Dollar über das Excelsior Jobs Program von Empire State Development bereitzustellen.

GE Vernova wird in Schenectady wichtige Komponenten für die Onshore-Windkraftanlage 6.1-158 montieren, darunter den Maschinenkopf, die Nabe und den Antriebsstrang, um die Nachfrage in den USA zu decken. Die Turbine ist für niedrige bis mittlere Windgeschwindigkeiten ausgelegt und mit einem innovativen zweiteiligen Carbon-Blattdesign ausgestattet, das eine verbesserte Logistik und eine höhere Leistung an schwer zugänglichen Standorten bietet.

GE kann auf eine 130-jährige Tradition im Bundesstaat New York zurückblicken, in dem sich die Geschäftsbereiche Gas Power und Onshore Wind von GE Vernova sowie das Global Research Center des Unternehmens befinden. Die heutige Ankündigung erfolgt zusätzlich zu den bereits Anfang des Jahres angekündigten Investitionen von GE in US-Einrichtungen in Höhe von 450 Millionen US-Dollar, darunter 11 Millionen US-Dollar für Schenectady in den Bereichen Kapazität, Anlagenwartung sowie Geräte- und Werkzeugmanagement.

GE Vernova hat für diese Turbinenplattform fast 10 GW an Aufträgen erhalten und weltweit mehr als 4 Millionen Betriebsstunden gesammelt. Laut der American Clean Power Association ist das Onshore-Wind-Unternehmen seit fünf Jahren der führende Anbieter von Onshore-Windturbinen in den Vereinigten Staaten und verfügt derzeit über eine Flotte von mehr als 54.000 installierten Windturbinen auf der ganzen Welt.

GE Vernova, das Portfolio an Energiegeschäften des Unternehmens, soll Anfang 2024 als steuerfreie Investment-Grade-Abspaltung von GE erfolgen. Das Portfolio umfasst erneuerbare Energien, Energie, Digital und Energiefinanzdienstleistungen.

Schenectady, NY, May 23, 2023: GE Vernova today announced that it will invest $50 million at its Schenectady, NY, facility and hire approximately 200 new full-time employees including skilled union operators, manufacturing engineers, and front line leadership to establish a new manufacturing assembly line for its onshore wind business. The site will assemble three key components for GE Vernova’s 6.1 MW turbine.

The manufacturing assembly line will be installed in the building where GE Vernova today continues to manufacture steam turbines and generators, and is anticipated to be completed by summer 2023, with the first set of components produced by early fall.

The recent passage of the Inflation Reduction Act has played an important role in today’s announcement, revitalizing the market, increasing demand for renewable energy and enabling energy security and competitiveness. New York State has also agreed to provide up to $2.5M though Empire State Development’s Excelsior Jobs Program.

GE Vernova will assemble critical components for 6.1-158 onshore wind turbine in Schenectady, including the machine head, hub and drive train to help meet demand in the US. The turbine is designed for low-to-medium wind speeds and is equipped with an innovative carbon two-piece blade design, offering improved logistics and increased output from hard-to-reach sites.

GE has a 130-year legacy in New York state, which is home to GE Vernova’s Gas Power and Onshore Wind businesses and the company’s Global Research Center. Today’s announcement is in addition to GE’s $450 million investment into U.S. facilities announced earlier this year, including $11 million for Schenectady in capacity, facility maintenance, and equipment and tool management.

GE Vernova has received nearly 10 GW of orders and amassed more than 4 million operating hours globally for this turbine platform. The Onshore Wind business has been the number one provider of onshore wind turbines in the United States for the last five years according to the American Clean Power Association, and currently has a fleet of more than 54,000 wind turbines installed around the world.
