Dieser Meilenstein markiert das Ende der Entwicklungsphase und den Baubeginn dieses wichtigen schwimmenden Offshore-Windanlagen im Mittelmeer.

(WK-intern) – Ocean Winds, ein internationales Offshore-Windenergieunternehmen, das von EDP Renewables (EDPR) und ENGIE (50:50) gegründet wurde, und die „Banque des territoires“ als Anteilseigner des Projekts Eoliennes flottantes du golfe du Lion (EFGL) haben gerade erreicht die endgültige Investitionsentscheidung, die sich zum Bau verpflichtet.

Dieser wichtige Schritt wird die Unterzeichnung von Verträgen mit den wichtigsten Industrie- und Finanzpartnern und den Beginn der eigentlichen Umsetzungsphase des Projekts ermöglichen.

Das EFGL-Projekt, das in Absprache mit lokalen Interessenvertretern und mit Respekt vor der Umwelt errichtet wurde, ist bereits eine Referenz in Bezug auf Umweltstudien und die Überwachung und den Schutz der biologischen Vielfalt. Sie zeichnet sich durch innovative technologische Entscheidungen aus und hemmt das Bestreben von Ocean Winds, schwimmende Windenergie schnell als wettbewerbsfähige Quelle zu positionieren, die in den französischen Energiemix integriert ist.

„Dank der hochrangigen Teams, die an dem Projekt arbeiten, ist dieser FID ein Schritt näher beim Bau eines Pilotprojekts, das als technologische Referenz für den gesamten Sektor der schwimmenden Windenergie dienen wird“, sagte Grzegorz Gorski, COO Ocean Winds. „Als dritte Generation der Floater-Technologie von Principle Power Inc. – nachdem WindFloat Atlantic (2 MW) vor zehn Jahren in Betrieb genommen wurde und WindFloat Atlantic (25 MW) vor zwei Jahren – bietet das Design des EFGL-Floaters erhebliche Verbesserungen und neue Lösungen. Mit einer so langen Betriebserfahrung ist es jetzt die fortschrittlichste Floater-Technologie und bereit für den kommerziellen Einsatz in vollem Umfang.“ Darüber hinaus kommentierte er: „Ocean Winds mit PPI-Technologie ist jetzt die einzige Fortsetzung der französischen Pilotprojekte, die sich für Bretagne Sud-Ausschreibungen bewerben. Die anderen ausgezeichneten Technologien werden entweder eingestellt oder die ausgezeichneten Entwickler haben ihre Wetten geändert.“

Das EFGL-Pilotprojekt umfasst den Bau und Betrieb von drei schwimmenden 10-MW-Windkraftanlagen mehr als 16 km vor der Küste von Leucate (Aude) und Le Barcarès (Pyrénées-Orientales). Durch die Erfassung der regelmäßigen und anhaltenden Offshore-Winde werden die Turbinen, die leistungsstärksten, die jemals auf einem Schwimmer installiert wurden, den jährlichen Strombedarf von mehr als 50.000 Küstenbewohnern decken. Die Farm soll Ende 2023 in Betrieb gehen und 20 Jahre in Betrieb sein.

Ocean Winds reaches Final Investment Decision on French EFGL project

This milestone marks the end of the development phase and start of construction for this key floating offshore wind pilot in the Mediterranean Sea.
Ocean Winds, an international offshore wind energy company created by EDP Renewables (EDPR) and ENGIE (50:50), and the “Banque des territoires”, as shareholders of the Eoliennes flottantes du golfe du Lion (EFGL) project, have just reached the Final Investment Decision, committing to the construction. This major step will allow the signing of contracts with the main industrial and financial partners and the launch of the project’s actual implementation phase.

Built in consultation with local stakeholders and respectful of the environment, the EFGL project is already a reference in terms of environmental studies and biodiversity watch and protection. It is characterized by innovative technological choices and inhibits Ocean Winds´ ambition to quickly position floating wind energy as a competitive source integrated into the French energy mix.

“Thanks to the high-level teams working on the project, this FID marks a step closer in the construction of a pilot that will serve as a technological reference for the entire floating wind energy sector”, said Grzegorz Gorski, COO Ocean Winds. “As the third generation of the Principle Power Inc. floater technology – after WindFloat Atlantic (2MW) starting operation ten years ago and WindFloat Atlantic (25MW) from two years ago – the design of the EFGL floater holds significant improvements and new solutions. With such a long operational experience, it is now the most advanced floater technology and is ready for a full-scale commercial deployment.” In addition, he commented: “Ocean Winds with PPI technology is now the only continuation of the French pilot programme projects bidding in Bretagne Sud tender. The other technologies awarded are either discontinued or the awarded developers changed their bets.”

The EFGL pilot project involves the construction and operation of three 10 MW floating wind turbines, more than 16 km offshore from Leucate (Aude) and Le Barcarès (Pyrénées-Orientales). By capturing the regular and sustained offshore winds, the turbines, the most powerful ever installed on a float, will cover the annual electricity needs of more than 50,000 coastal residents. The farm is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2023 and will operate for 20 years.
