DK’s pioneering system improves yield solar panels ALPHEN UPON RHINE (The Netherlands) – DK Prototyping for Automotive Glass has developed a revolutionary system that improves the yield of solar panels. The innovative company from Alphen upon Rhine applies the system to its new building; it will be the first building in the world that will be fully covered with extra-profitable solar panels. Special frame Solar panels need sunlight to function but comparatively perform a lot worse as they get warmer. Modern solar panels have a yield of about 20%; 80% remains unused. The heat reduces yield even more. DK Prototyping for Automotive Glass came up with a solution for this. By encasing the solar panels within a frame, they create a kind of jigsaw puzzle with pieces that can be connected to each other in such a way as to make the surface watertight and airtight. Keeping panels cool There will be an air channel system under the solar panels with a strong air current blowing through it to reduce the heat of the solar panels. The cooling leads to improved efficiency of the panels. The warm air is stored (depending on the season), but can also be used straight away to heat the building. Are you interested in the way this system works? In this animation video, we explain how: Extremely sustainable DK’s new building will become extremely sustainable. The building will be fully covered with solar panels and does therefore not require roof covering. Even if the unique system is not activated, the panels still have a function, as they provide an additional insulating layer. Furthermore, cooling extends the life of the solar panels because degradation of the cells is progressively linked to temperature. Also, the building will be entirely CO2-neutral, and there is no gas connection to be found; everything is produced electrically. DK Prototyping for Automotive Glass expects to start with the construction of their sustainable building by mid-2019. If everything goes according to schedule, the building will be ready by mid-2020. About DK Prototyping for Automotive Glass DK Prototyping for Automotive Glass is an innovative company in Alphen upon Rhine which is active within the car industry. They mainly make car windows for prototype cars for crash and wind tunnel testing and tests at extreme temperatures, and they provide glass for concept cars for motor shows. DK also develops automotive glass products and produces customised car windows for Old Timers. DK Prototyping for Automotive Glass serves large European car manufacturers in particular.
