Das erste der beiden 85 Kilometer langen Offshore-Exportkabel des Offshore-Windparks Inch Cape wurde erfolgreich vor der Ostküste Schottlands verlegt.

(WK-intern) – Das dreiphasige 220-kV-Exportkabel wurde von Enshore Subsea in drei 28 Kilometer langen Abschnitten mit dem Kabelverlegeschiff CMOS Installer vom Hafen von Blyth aus verlegt.

Nach der Inbetriebnahme wird es Strom vom 1,1-Gigawatt-Windpark zum neuen, im Bau befindlichen Umspannwerk des Projekts in Cockenzie, East Lothian, übertragen.

Das Kabel benötigte zwei Offshore-Verbindungsstücke, die mit North Sea Giant hergestellt wurden und in Kürze im Meeresboden vergraben werden.

Das von Ningbo Orient Wires & Cables Co. Ltd (Orient Cable) hergestellte, 2000 mm² starke Kabel gehört zu den größten AC-Exportkabeln der Welt. Das zweite 85 Kilometer lange Exportkabel wird ebenfalls von Enshore Subsea in drei 28 Kilometer langen Abschnitten im Rahmen einer späteren Kampagne im Jahr 2026 verlegt.

Inch Cape befindet sich in der Offshore-Bauphase. Sowohl die Offshore-Umspannplattform als auch das erste Exportkabel wurden installiert und der erste XXL-Monopile an den Hafen von Leith geliefert. Im nächsten Jahr werden die Monopile- und Jacket-Fundamente des Projekts installiert, die erste von 72 Vestas-15-MW-Turbinen installiert und das Onshore-Umspannwerk fertiggestellt.

Das Projekt ist auf Kurs für die erste Inbetriebnahme Ende 2026 und den vollständigen kommerziellen Betrieb im Jahr 2027.

Inch Cape ist ein Joint Venture von ESB und Red Rock Renewables, das zu gleichen Teilen zu gleichen Teilen besteht. Nach Fertigstellung wird das Projekt jährlich fast 5 Terawattstunden (TWh) Energie erzeugen – genug, um die Hälfte der schottischen Haushalte mit Strom zu versorgen.

First offshore export cable installed at Inch Cape

The first of Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm’s two 85-kilometre offshore export cables has been successfully installed off the east coast of Scotland.

The 220 kV, three-phase export cable was installed in three 28-kilometre sections by Enshore Subsea using the CMOS Installer cable lay vessel operating from the Port of Blyth. Once operational, it will transmit power from the 1.1 gigawatt (GW) wind farm to the project’s new onshore substation under construction at Cockenzie, East Lothian

The cable required two offshore joints which were completed using North Sea Giant and will shortly be buried in the seabed.

Manufactured by Ningbo Orient Wires & Cables Co. Ltd (Orient Cable), the 2000mm² cable is among the largest AC export cables in the world. The second 85-kilometre export cable will also be installed by Enshore Subsea in three 28-kilometre sections during a later campaign in 2026.

Inch Cape is well into its offshore construction phase with both the offshore substation platform and the first export cable installed, and the first of its XXL monopiles delivered to the Port of Leith. Next year will see the project’s monopile and jacket foundations installed along with the first of 72 Vestas 15MW turbines and the completion of the onshore substation.

The project is on track for first power in late-2026 and full commercial operations in 2027.

Inch Cape is owned in a 50/50 equal joint venture by ESB and Red Rock Renewables, and once complete will generate almost 5 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy each year or enough to power half of the homes in Scotland.
