(WK-intern) – Zweite Installationssaison beginnt im Mai 2025 CVOW ist von den staatlichen und bundesstaatlichen Behörden vollständig genehmigt, liegt weiterhin im Budget und ist im Zeitplan, um die Bauarbeiten Ende 2026 abzuschließen

RICHMOND, Virginia – Dominion Energy gab heute bekannt, dass während der ersten Installationssaison 78 Monopile-Fundamente und 4 Offshore-Umspannwerksfundamente für das 2,6-Gigawatt-Projekt Offshore-Windkraftanlagen an der Küste Virginias (CVOW) installiert wurden. Damit wurden die ursprünglichen Ziele des Unternehmens erreicht, mindestens 70 Monopiles 27 Meilen vor der Küste von Virginia Beach in den Meeresboden zu versenken.

CVOW, das größte im Bau befindliche Offshore-Windprojekt in den Vereinigten Staaten, wird aus 176 Turbinen bestehen, die genug saubere, erneuerbare Energie erzeugen, um bis zu 660.000 Haushalte mit Strom zu versorgen, und soll den Kunden in den ersten 10 Betriebsjahren Brennstoffeinsparungen von 3 Milliarden Dollar bescheren.

Der Bau von CVOW liegt weiterhin im Kosten- und Zeitplan und soll Ende 2026 abgeschlossen sein. Das Projekt ist nun zu 43 Prozent abgeschlossen. In den nächsten Monaten wird sich das Unternehmen auf die Installation des ersten Offshore-Umspannwerks, die weitere Verlegung von Exportkabeln und den Bau der Onshore-Übertragung sowie die Platzierung von Übergangsstücken auf Monopiles konzentrieren, um die Turbineninstallation ab 2025 vorzubereiten.

Die Monopile-Fundamente, die am Portsmouth Marine Terminal aufgestellt werden, sind einzelne vertikale Stahlzylinder, die vom Weltmarktführer EEW SPC hergestellt und in den Meeresboden eingebaut werden, um die von Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy gelieferten Windturbinengeneratoren zu stützen. Im Einklang mit dem Bauplan des Projekts werden die Monopile-Installationen im Mai 2025 wieder aufgenommen.

Die Vorteile der Offshore-Windenergie für die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung und die Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen sind für Hampton Roads und den Commonwealth von entscheidender Bedeutung. Fast 1.000 in Virginia ansässige Arbeitnehmer – mehr als 800 in der Region Hampton Roads – waren für das CVOW-Projekt oder für andere Unternehmen, die CVOW unterstützen, tätig. Dominion Energy Successfully Completes First Monopile Installation Season for On-Time and On-Budget Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind

• CVOW is fully permitted by state and federal authorities, remains on-budget and on schedule to complete construction in late 2026

RICHMOND, Va. – Dominion Energy announced today that 78 monopile foundations and 4 offshore substation foundations were installed for the 2.6-gigawatt Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project during the first installation season, achieving the company’s initial objectives of at least 70 monopiles set into the sea floor 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach.

CVOW, the largest offshore wind project under construction in the United States, will consist of 176 turbines that will generate enough clean, renewable energy to power up to 660,000 homes and is expected to generate fuel savings of $3 billion for customers during the first 10 years of operation.

CVOW construction remains on-budget and on schedule to be complete in late 2026. The project is now 43 percent complete. For the next few months, the company will focus on installation of the first offshore substation, continued export cable lays and onshore transmission construction, and placement of transition pieces on top of monopiles in preparation for turbine installation starting in 2025.

The monopile foundations, which are being staged at Portsmouth Marine Terminal, are single vertical, steel cylinders manufactured by global leader EEW SPC and are being installed into the sea floor to support the wind turbine generators supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. Consistent with the project construction schedule, monopile installations will resume in May 2025. 

Offshore wind’s economic development and jobs benefits are transformative for Hampton Roads and the Commonwealth. Nearly 1,000 Virginia-based workers – more than 800 in the Hampton Roads region – have been engaged on the CVOW project or with other businesses supporting CVOW. More than 1,000 local jobs will be needed to support ongoing operations and maintenance of this facility after the project begins commercial operation.
