NKT liefert Stromkabelsystem für den 1,3 GW Offshore-Windpark Hornsea 2

(WK-intern) – NKT unterstützt weiterhin den Übergang zu erneuerbarer Energie in Großbritannien, indem es das Stromkabelsystem fertigstellt, das den Offshore-Windpark Hornsea 2 mit der Küste verbindet.

Mit einer Kapazität von 1,3 GW wird Hornsea 2 im Vollbetrieb der weltweit größte Offshore-Windpark sein.

NKT hat das 220-kV-HVAC-Stromkabelsystem für den Offshore-Windpark Hornsea 2 in Betrieb genommen, der 89 km vor der englischen Ostküste liegt. Der Windpark nimmt eine zentrale Position beim Übergang zu erneuerbarer Energie in Großbritannien ein und wird bei vollem Betrieb mehr als 1,3 Millionen Haushalte mit Strom versorgen.

Patrick Harnett, Programmdirektor von Ørsted für Hornsea 2, sagte: „Hornsea 2, 89 km vor der Ostküste Großbritanniens gelegen, wird später in diesem Jahr der weltweit größte in Betrieb befindliche Offshore-Windpark sein und den Titel von seinem Schwesterprojekt Hornsea 1 übernehmen , mit der Kraft, 1,32 GW saubere Energie zu erzeugen. Der Bau eines Projekts dieser Größe und Größenordnung ist nur durch starke Zusammenarbeit, harte Arbeit und Hingabe möglich. Wir arbeiten sehr eng mit unseren Partnerunternehmen zusammen und haben die Ziellinie vor Augen, während wir die verbleibenden Turbinen installieren und Hornsea 2 weiter testen, in Betrieb nehmen und mit Energie versorgen.“

Die Stromkabel für Hornsea 2 wurden in der NKT-Fabrik in Karlskrona, Schweden, hergestellt, die zu 100 % mit Ökostrom betrieben wird, wodurch die CO2-Bilanz des Kabelsystems minimiert wird. Als Teil des Umweltschwerpunkts des Betriebs wurde die Installation der Untersee-Stromkabelsysteme von NKT Victoria, einem der energieeffizientesten Kabelverlegungsschiffe der Branche, abgeschlossen.

NKT verfügt über umfangreiche Erfahrung bei der Verbindung von Offshore-Windparks mit dem britischen Festland, einschließlich in Auftrag gegebener Projekte wie Hornsea 1, Moray East und der Walney Extension. Derzeit ist NKT an laufenden Offshore-Windprojekten wie dem Offshore-Windpark Dogger Bank beteiligt, der der erste Offshore-Windpark in Großbritannien sein wird, der mit einer HGÜ-Stromkabelverbindung an Land angeschlossen wird.

NKT finalizes the power cable system for the world’s biggest offshore wind farm

NKT continues to support the transition to renewable energy in the UK by completing the power cable system connecting the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm to shore. With a capacity of 1.3 GW Hornsea 2 will be the world’s biggest offshore wind farm when fully operational.

NKT has commissioned the 220 kV HVAC power cable system for the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm located 89 km off the English east coast. The wind farm holds a central position in the transition to renewable energy in the UK and will power more than 1.3 million households when fully operational.

Patrick Harnett, Ørsted’s Programme Director for Hornsea 2, said: “Once fully operational later this year, Hornsea 2, located 89km off the UK’s east coast, will be the world’s largest operating offshore wind farm, taking the title from its sibling project Hornsea 1, with the power to generate 1.32 GW of clean energy. Constructing a project of this size and scale is only possible through strong collaboration, hard work, and dedication. We work very closely with our partner companies and have the finishing line in sight as we install the remaining turbines and continue testing, commissioning, and energising Hornsea 2.”

The power cables for Hornsea 2 were manufactured at the NKT factory in Karlskrona, Sweden, which runs on 100% green electricity minimizing the carbon footprint of the cable system. As part of the environmental focus of the operation, the installation of the submarine power cable systems was completed by NKT Victoria, one of the most energy efficient cable- laying vessel in the industry.

NKT has extensive experience in connecting offshore wind parks to the UK mainland including commissioned projects such as Hornsea 1, Moray East and the Walney Extension. Currently, NKT is involved in ongoing offshore wind projects such as the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm, which will be the first offshore wind farm in the UK to be connected to shore with a HVDC power cable link.
