In order to promote the acceleration of commercial-scale floating offshore wind deployments around the world WFO has launched the Floating Offshore Wind Committee as a new and truly international industry initiative. This initiative aims at duplicating – if not outperforming – the installed capacity and cost competitiveness seen with bottom-fixed offshore wind today. The Floating Offshore Wind Committee brings together not only international offshore wind industry leaders but also internationally recognized floating wind specialists – big and small – representing all aspects of the offshore wind value chain. As an industry-driven initiative the Floating Offshore Wind Committee has the following principal objectives: 1. Education, advocacy and policymaking 2. Enable cost reductions and commercial-scale deployment 3. Promote the highest health and safety standards 4. Engage with environmental stakeholders and maritime space users This new initiative will be chaired by Bruno Geschier from IDEOL and co-chaired by Clément Weber from GREEN GIRAFFE. Offshore wind industry heavyweights and WFO members innogy and Northland Power have already confirmed to proactively participate in this exciting new initiative. Bruno Geschier is the Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of IDEOL and is an internationally recognized and respected floating offshore wind expert and advocate. Bruno Geschier is the initiator and former chair of WindEurope’s Floating Wind Work Group as well as the person behind the world’s largest event solely dedicated to floating offshore wind (FOWT), where he serves as chairman of their scientific and technical committee / programming committee. He is a regular speaker and chairman at numerous offshore wind events across the globe. He is fully committed to pursue his international advocacy work in favor of an accelerated implementation of floating offshore wind in the global renewable energy mix and looks forward to welcoming key industry players to the Committee to join him in his efforts. Clément Weber is a co-founder of Green Giraffe a specialist advisory firm focused on renewable energy. In 2011, Clément opened the company’s London office and managed Green Giraffe’s UK activities, followed by a move to Paris in 2017 to become the Director of the Paris office, before returning to London in January 2020. He coordinates Green Giraffe’s efforts in floating offshore wind and has led several transactions in floating as well as bottomfixed offshore wind, both on the equity and debt side. Recently, Clément closed several development funding transactions in floating offshore wind in California (700 MW, 2018), Hawaii (500 MW, 2018) and South Korea (500 MW, 2019). About WFO: World Forum Offshore Wind (WFO) is the world’s only organisation 100% dedicated to fostering the global growth of offshore wind energy.
