RWE und Amazon Web Services unterzeichnen strategische Zusammenarbeit

(WK-intern) – RWE, eines der weltweit führenden Energieunternehmen, und Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), ein Unternehmen von Amazon.com, Inc. und die weltweit umfassendste und am weitesten verbreitete Cloud, haben eine strategische Rahmenvereinbarung unterzeichnet.

Ziel ist es, die digitalen Transformationsinitiativen von RWE voranzutreiben und Amazons umfassende Bemühungen zu unterstützen, seine Betriebsabläufe durch die Förderung von Projekten im Bereich erneuerbarer Energien nachhaltiger zu gestalten.

Die Vereinbarung baut auf der bereits bestehenden engen Geschäftsbeziehung zwischen den beiden Unternehmen auf. Amazon und RWE haben in den USA sieben Stromabnahmeverträge (PPAs) mit einer Gesamtkapazität von 1,1 Gigawatt erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Diese ermöglichen Amazon, seinen Betrieb mit CO2-freier Energie zu versorgen. Der Strom wird aus den Wind- und Solaranlagen von RWE geliefert, die teilweise bereits in Betrieb und teilweise im Bau sind.

Im Rahmen dieses neuen Rahmens wird AWS RWE Cloud-Service-Lösungen bereitstellen, um die digitale Transformation des Unternehmens voranzutreiben, darunter auch Lösungen für künstliche Intelligenz und Datenanalyse. AWS arbeitete erfolgreich mit dem Bereich Supply & Trading von RWE zusammen, um geschäftskritische Anwendungen auf AWS zu migrieren, darunter die Energiehandels- und Risikomanagementplattform. Dies ermöglichte 30 % Leistungssteigerungen bei den End-of-Day-Laufzeiten.

Die Spitzentechnologien von AWS werden RWE künftig bei seinen Innovationen im Handel, der Optimierung kommerzieller Anlagen, einschließlich erneuerbarer Energien, und bei KI-Anwendungen im Energiebereich unterstützen. RWE, one of the globally leading energy companies, and Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com, Inc. company and the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud, have signed a Strategic Framework Agreement aimed at advancing RWE’s digital transformation initiatives and supporting Amazon’s broader efforts to power its operations more sustainably by supporting renewable energy projects.

The agreement builds upon an already robust relationship between the two companies. Amazon and RWE have successfully executed seven Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in the United States with an overall capacity of 1.1 Gigawatts, which are helping Amazon power its operations with carbon-free energy. The electricity will be supplied from RWE’s wind and solar facilities, some of which are already in operation and some of which are under construction.

Under this new framework, AWS will provide RWE with cloud services solutions to advance its digital transformation journey, including artificial intelligence and data analytics capabilities. AWS successfully collaborated with RWE’s Supply & Trading division to migrate mission critical applications to AWS, including their Energy Trading and Risk Management platform enabling 30% performance improvements with end of day runtimes.

Going forward, AWS’s cutting-edge technologies will support RWE’s continued innovation in trading, commercial asset optimization including renewables and energy AI applications. The collaboration will also deepen ties to RWE’s AI Research Laboratory in Seattle to accelerate RWE’s leadership in developing forecasting models using advanced AI through large computational power and cloud elasticity.
