Carbon Catalyst gibt den Beginn der Injektionsarbeiten bei Poseidon bekannt

• Kohlenstoffabscheidung und -speicherung (CCS) im erschöpften Leman-Gasfeld

(WK-intern) – Carbon Catalyst Limited (CCL) freut sich, den Beginn des Poseidon-CO2-Injektionstests am Montag, den 10. Februar, bekannt zu geben.

Dieser bahnbrechende Vorgang, der erste seiner Art in britischen Gewässern, stellt sowohl für Großbritannien als auch für das Poseidon Joint Venture (PJV) einen bedeutenden Meilenstein dar. CCL möchte dem PJV-Betreiber Perenco UK für das Erreichen dieses wichtigen Meilensteins seinen Dank aussprechen.

Der Poseidon-Injektionstest nutzt Petrodecs Erda-Bohrgerät, das speziell für die Injektion von CO2 in das H-Kompartiment des erschöpften Leman-Gasfelds in der südlichen Nordsee Großbritanniens ausgestattet ist. Dieser Vorgang folgt auf die erfolgreiche Wiederinbetriebnahme der H27-Bohrung im August 2024.

Nach einem erfolgreichen Injektionstest wird das PJV 2027 eine endgültige Investitionsentscheidung (FID) und 2029 die erste kommerzielle CO2-Injektion zur dauerhaften Speicherung treffen. Es wird erwartet, dass Poseidon eine anfängliche jährliche Injektionskapazität von 1,5 Millionen Tonnen CO2 anstrebt und die endgültige jährliche Injektionsrate auf 40 Millionen Tonnen gesteigert wird. Angesichts dessen und der potenziellen Speicherkapazität von 1 Milliarde Tonnen wird Poseidon eines der größten Projekte zur Kohlenstoffabscheidung und -speicherung in Nordwesteuropa werden.

Carbon Catalyst announces the commencement of injection operations at Poseidon

Carbon Catalyst Limited (CCL) is pleased to announce the commencement of the Poseidon CO2 injection test on Monday, 10th February. This groundbreaking operation, the first of its kind in UK waters, marks a significant milestone for both the UK and the Poseidon Joint Venture (PJV). CCL would like to express its gratitude to the PJV operator, Perenco UK, for achieving this key landmark.

The Poseidon injection test utilises Petrodec’s Erda rig, specially equipped for the injection of CO2 into the H compartment of the Leman depleted gas field in the UK Southern North Sea. This operation follows the successful recompletion of the H27 well in August 2024.

Following a successful injection test, the PJV will progress towards a Final Investment Decision (FID) in 2027, and first commercial CO2 injection for permanent storage in 2029. It is anticipated that Poseidon will target an initial annual injection capacity of 1.5 million tonnes of CO2, scaling up to an ultimate annual injection rate of 40 million tonnes. Given this, and the potential 1 billion tonnes storage capacity, Poseidon is set to become one of the largest Carbon Capture & Storage projects in Northwest Europe.

About Project Poseidon
Poseidon envisions the permanent geological storage of approximately one billion tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the UK’s largest depleted gas field, the Perenco-operated Leman gas field, and other adjacent storage reservoirs within the carbon storage licence.
