Zürich/Mailand/Bari – Barium Bay hat vom Ministerium für Umwelt und Energiesicherheit eine positive Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung (UVP) erhalten.

(WK-intern) – Das Projekt liegt an der Adria zwischen Bari und Barletta in der Region Apulien im Süden Italiens. Entwickelt wurde es von Galileo, einer paneuropäischen Plattform für die Entwicklung erneuerbarer Energien, und der Hope Group, einem italienischen Unternehmen für die Planung von Anlagen für erneuerbare Energien.

Barium Bay ist der größte Offshore-Windpark Italiens und des Mittelmeers, der diesen Meilenstein erreicht hat.

Die UVP-Erteilung folgte auf die Zustimmung des Umweltministeriums und des Kulturministeriums. Diese Erteilung ermöglicht Barium Bay die Teilnahme am Auktionsverfahren gemäß FER-2-Dekret (Dekret zur Förderung erneuerbarer Energiequellen), das einen langfristigen Differenzvertrag für 3.800 MW Offshore-Windenergie vergibt.

Das schwimmende Offshore-Windprojekt, das mehr als 40 Kilometer von der Küste entfernt liegt, ist dank günstiger Bathymetrie mit zwei Offshore-Umspannwerken mit Festbodenfundamenten ausgestattet. Mit einer erwarteten Leistung von 1.110 MW wird es aufgrund seiner windreichen Lage über 3 Milliarden Kilowattstunden pro Jahr erzeugen und damit den Energiebedarf von mehr als einer Million italienischer Haushalte decken.

Barium Bay at 1,110 MW is the largest floating offshore wind farm to obtain Environmental Impact Assessment decree in Italy

Zurich/Milan/Bari – Barium Bay has obtained its positive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) decree from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security. The project is located along the stretch of Adriatic Sea between the cities of Bari and Barletta, in the Apulia Region, South of Italy. It was developed by Galileo, a pan-European platform for renewable energy development, and Hope Group, an Italian company active in the design of renewable energy plants.

Barium Bay is the largest offshore wind farm to have achieved this milestone in Italy and the Mediterranean Sea. The EIA decree follows the green light given by the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Culture. Such achievement will allow Barium Bay to participate in the auction procedure outlined in the FER 2 Decree (decree for Renewable Energy Sources incentives), which allocates a long-term Contract for Difference to 3,800 MW of offshore wind energy.

The floating offshore wind project, located more than 40 kilometres from the coast, is nevertheless designed with two offshore substations with fixed-bottom foundations thanks to favourable bathymetry. With an expected capacity of 1,110 MW, due to its windy location, it will generate over 3 billion kilowatt-hours per year, covering the energy needs of more than one million Italian households.
