Der Hafen von Bilbao hat die Onego Deusto, ein von Onego Shipping & Chartering betriebenes Schiff, nach ihrer Abfahrt aus Rotterdam mit eSAIL-Saugsegeln als ersten Anlaufhafen begrüßt.

(WK-intern) – Dies ist ein wichtiger Meilenstein im Engagement des Hafens und der Reederei für Nachhaltigkeit und die Reduzierung des CO₂-Fußabdrucks im Seeverkehr.

Dieser technologische Durchbruch macht das Schiff zu einem Pionier der Stückgutflotte mit windunterstütztem Antrieb.

Die neu installierten eSAIL-Segel sind mit aktiver Saugtechnologie ausgestattet und ermöglichen dank der intelligenten Nutzung von Windenergie eine deutliche Reduzierung des Kraftstoffverbrauchs – unter optimalen Bedingungen bis zu 15 %. Diese direkte Verbesserung der Energieeffizienz des Schiffes wirkt sich unmittelbar auf die Reduzierung der CO₂-Emissionen aus und trägt so den wachsenden Anforderungen der Dekarbonisierung in der globalen Schifffahrt Rechnung.

Auf dieser Jungfernfahrt mit nachhaltiger See wird das Schiff mit Ziel Houston O-Next-Rohre aus der Net Zero-Rohrreihe der Tubos Reunidos Group transportieren, die ersten nahtlosen Stahlrohre auf dem Markt mit 0,0 CO₂-Emissionen.

Die 132 Meter lange Onego Deusto wird von Bergé Marítima verladen und von Servicios Logísticos Portuarios-SLP beladen. Der Name des Schiffes ist eine Hommage an die über 20-jährige historische Geschäftsbeziehung der Reederei mit dem Hafen von Bilbao, an die ersten Anläufe im Deusto-Kanal und an die enge Verbindung zwischen Hafen und Reeder. Derzeit fährt das Schiff zweimal im Monat und steuert vorrangig den Golf von Mexiko, Houston, New Orleans und andere Häfen in der Karibik und an der Ostküste der USA an.

Dass Bilbao der erste Anlaufhafen für Saugsegel ist, unterstreicht diese Beziehung, stärkt die strategische Partnerschaft mit Onego und trägt zum gemeinsamen Ziel bei, eine sauberere, verantwortungsvollere und wettbewerbsfähigere Industrie zu fördern. The Port of Bilbao welcomes the Onego Deusto on its maiden voyage with an innovative system of suction sails

The Port of Bilbao has welcomed the Onego Deusto, a vessel operated by Onego Shipping & Chartering, as its first port of call after its departure from Rotterdam with eSAIL suction sails, a significant milestone in the commitment of both the port itself and the shipping company to sustainability and to reducing the carbon footprint in maritime transport. This technological breakthrough establishes the vessel as a pioneer in the breakbulk cargo fleet equipped with wind-assisted propulsion.

The newly installed eSAIL sails are designed with active suction technology, enabling a significant reduction in fuel consumption – up to 15% in optimal conditions – thanks to the smart use of wind energy. Consequently, this direct improvement in the vessel’s energy efficiency has an immediate impact on the reduction of CO₂ emissions, meeting the growing demands of decarbonisation in global shipping.
On this maiden voyage with sustainable sails, the vessel, bound for the port of Houston, will be carrying O-Next pipes, from the Tubos Reunidos Group Net Zero pipe range, the first seamless steel pipe on the market with 0.0 CO₂ emissions.

The name of the ship is a tribute to the shipping company’s historical 20-year plus relationship with the Port of Bilbao, to those first calls in the Deusto Canal and to the close ties forged between the port and the shipowner. At present, the vessel is sailing twice a month, with the US Gulf, Houston, New Orleans and other ports in the Caribbean and on the East Coast of the USA as priority destinations.

The fact that Bilbao is its first port of call with suction sails is recognition of this relationship, strengthening the strategic partnership with Onego and contributing to the common objective of promoting a cleaner, more responsible and competitive industry. At the same time, it further strengthens the relationship they have built up with the Tubos Reunidos Group for more than two decades, based on efficiency, innovation and respect for the environment.
