Natural Power übernimmt 5-Millionen-Euro-Projekt im Rahmen von Horizon Europe zur Förderung nachhaltiger Offshore-Windenergie

(WK-intern) – Natural Power, führender Anbieter von Beratungs- und Dienstleistungen im Bereich erneuerbare Energien, wurde mit der Unterstützung des neu gestarteten 5-Millionen-Euro-Projekts COMPASS (Comprehensive Offshore Management Platform for Assessing Sustainability) im Rahmen von Horizon Europe beauftragt.

Ziel des Projekts ist die Verbesserung der ökologischen, sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Nachhaltigkeit von Offshore-Windparks in ganz Europa.

Das im November 2025 gestartete, vierjährige COMPASS-Projekt entwickelt eine ganzheitliche Open-Source-Entscheidungsplattform, die ökologische, ökonomische und soziale Modelle mit Lebenszyklusmethoden und einem digitalen Zwilling von Offshore-Windparks integriert. Die Plattform veranschaulicht die Wechselwirkungen von Offshore-Windparks mit marinen Ökosystemen und deren Nutzen und unterstützt so eine fundiertere und transparentere Entscheidungsfindung.

Die COMPASS-Plattform kombiniert Lebenszyklusanalyse (LCA), soziale Lebenszyklusanalyse (S-LCA) und Lebenszykluskostenrechnung (LCC) mit Modellen des Ökosystem- und Sozioökosystem-Stoffwechsels sowie mit Bewertungen von Ökosystemleistungen. Dieser integrierte Ansatz ermöglicht Nachhaltigkeitsbewertungen für sowohl fest installierte als auch schwimmende Offshore-Windtechnologien in verschiedenen europäischen Meeresbecken.

Die Projektmethodik zielt darauf ab, klare Nachhaltigkeitsindikatoren und praxisnahe Empfehlungen zu generieren, die Planungsentscheidungen und Angebotsbewertungen unterstützen. Um eine breite Akzeptanz in der Branche zu gewährleisten, wird die Plattform in enger Zusammenarbeit mit einer Endnutzergruppe aus Offshore-Windparkentwicklern, Umweltberatungsunternehmen und Entscheidungsträgern entwickelt.

Natural Power bringt seine umfassende Erfahrung in den Bereichen Offshore-Windenergie, Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung und ökosystembasierte Entscheidungsunterstützung ein, um sicherzustellen, dass die Plattform einen praktischen Nutzen für die Akteure der Branche bietet.

Natural Power, the leading renewable energy consultancy and service provider, has been appointed to support a newly launched €5 million Horizon Europe project, COMPASS (Comprehensive Offshore Management Platform for Assessing Sustainability), which aims to improve the environmental, social and economic sustainability of offshore wind farms across Europe.

Launched in November 2025, the four-year COMPASS project will develop a holistic, open-source decision-support platform that integrates environmental, economic and social models with life-cycle methodologies and an offshore wind farm digital twin. The platform will demonstrate how offshore wind farms interact with marine ecosystems and the benefits these ecosystems provide, supporting more informed and transparent decision-making.

The COMPASS platform will combine life cycle assessment (LCA), social life cycle assessment (S-LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC) with ecosystem and socio-ecosystem metabolism models, as well as ecosystem services assessments. This integrated approach will enable sustainability assessments applicable to both bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind technologies, across a range of European sea basins.

The project methodology is designed to produce clear sustainability indicators and practical recommendations, supporting design decisions and tender evaluations. To ensure strong industry uptake, the platform will be developed in close collaboration with an end-user group comprising offshore wind developers, environmental consultancies and decision-makers.

Natural Power is contributing its extensive experience in offshore renewables, environmental assessment and ecosystem-based decision support to help ensure the platform delivers practical value for industry stakeholders.
