GE Vernova erweitert Produktionskapazitäten in Vietnam, um dem weltweit steigenden Bedarf an Elektrifizierung gerecht zu werden

(WK-intern) – Hai Phong, Vietnam – GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) gab heute eine Investition von rund 200 Millionen US-Dollar zur Erweiterung der Produktionskapazitäten im Bereich Elektrifizierung durch den Bau eines neuen Werks in Hai Phong, Vietnam, bekannt.

Der Bereich Elektrifizierung von GE Vernova bietet Technologien für die Stromübertragung, die Netzstabilität und großflächige Elektrifizierungsprogramme weltweit.

Diese Investition ist Teil der geplanten Investitionen von GE Vernova in Höhe von 11 Milliarden US-Dollar in Sachanlagen und Forschung & Entwicklung von 2025 bis 2028, darunter 1 Milliarde US-Dollar für Prolec GE von 2026 bis 2028. Sie folgt auf die 5,3 Milliarden US-Dollar schwere Übernahme von Prolec GE durch GE Vernova zur Steigerung der Transformatorenproduktion auf dem nordamerikanischen Markt, Investitionen von über 300 Millionen US-Dollar in Netzinfrastruktur in den USA sowie die Erweiterung des Standorts Stafford (Großbritannien) zur Stärkung der Fertigungskapazitäten für Hochspannungs-Gleichstrom-Übertragung (HGÜ) und Netzinfrastruktur in Europa.

Das neue Werk wird große Leistungstransformatoren hauptsächlich für HGÜ-Projekte (Hochspannungs-Gleichstrom-Übertragung) herstellen und die bestehenden HGÜ-Transformatorenfertigungsanlagen von GE Vernova in Stafford (Großbritannien) und Indien ergänzen. Diese Technologien ermöglichen den effizienten Transport von Strom über große Entfernungen und gewährleisten, dass Stromnetze den steigenden Strombedarf sicher und zuverlässig decken können.

Sie unterstreicht zudem unser langfristiges Engagement für die industrielle Entwicklung Vietnams.“

Das Werk in Hai Phong soll in Phasen entwickelt werden und vorbehaltlich der behördlichen Genehmigungen voraussichtlich 2028 den Vollbetrieb aufnehmen. Nach der Inbetriebnahme wird der Standort zur breiteren Transformatorenfertigungskapazität von GE Vernova beitragen und vorrangig die wachsende Nachfrage in Asien bedienen.

Das Wachstum des Strombedarfs ist in schnell industrialisierenden und urbanisierenden Märkten besonders stark, wo der Ausbau und die Modernisierung der Strominfrastruktur zügig voranschreiten. Die Ansiedlung von Produktionskapazitäten in dieser Region ermöglicht es dem Unternehmen, Lieferzeiten zu verkürzen, die Resilienz der Lieferkette zu stärken und eine zuverlässige Projektabwicklung zu gewährleisten.

Das Projekt soll bis 2030 rund 450 Arbeitsplätze schaffen, von denen ein Großteil mit lokalen Arbeitskräften besetzt werden soll. Darüber hinaus plant GE Vernova in Vietnam Schulungs- und Wissensaustauschprogramme für die Belegschaft, um lokale Kompetenzen aufzubauen und den Standort Hai Phong mit dem globalen Fertigungsnetzwerk für Elektrifizierungstechnik zu verbinden.

Die Anlagen von GE Vernova decken bis zu 30 % des vietnamesischen Strombedarfs und unterstreichen damit die langjährige Präsenz des Unternehmens im Land. GE Vernova beschäftigt heute über 1.100 Mitarbeiter an neun Standorten in Vietnam und ist in verschiedenen Geschäftsbereichen tätig. Neben dem neuen Werk in Hai Phong betreibt GE Vernova das Reparaturzentrum in Phu My und das Abhitzekesselwerk in Dung Quat. Diese sind Teil des globalen Reparatur- und Fertigungsnetzwerks des Unternehmens, das Kunden weltweit betreut.

GE Vernova expands manufacturing capacity in Vietnam to support growing global electrification needs

Hai Phong, Vietnam – GE Vernova (NYSE: GEV) today announced an investment of approximately $200 million to expand manufacturing capacity within its Electrification segment by establishing a new facility in Hai Phong, Vietnam. GE Vernova’s Electrification segment provides technologies that support power transmission, grid stability, and large-scale electrification programs worldwide.

This investment forms part of GE Vernova’s planned investments of $11 billion in capex and R&D from 2025 through 2028, including $1 billion for Prolec GE from 2026 to 2028. It follows GE Vernova completing the $5.3 billion acquisition of Prolec GE to increase transformer production in the North American market, more than $300 million in investments in grid facilities in the United States, and the expansion of its Stafford, UK site to strengthen HVDC and grid manufacturing capabilities in Europe.

The new facility will manufacture large power transformers mainly for High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) projects, complementing GE Vernova’s existing HVDC transformer manufacturing facilities in Stafford, UK, and India. These technologies are used to move electricity efficiently over long distances and ensure power networks can safely and reliably handle rising electricity demand.

The Hai Phong facility is planned to be developed in phases, with full operations expected in 2028, subject to regulatory approvals. Once operational, the site is expected to contribute towards GE Vernova’s broader transformer manufacturing capacity while primarily serving growing demand across Asia.

Electricity demand growth is particularly strong in fast-industrializing and urbanizing markets, where power infrastructure expansion and modernization are advancing at pace. Locating manufacturing capacity in this region will allow the company to improve delivery timelines, strengthen supply chain resilience, and support reliable project execution.

The project is expected to create approximately 450 jobs by 2030, with a significant number planned to be filled locally. In addition, GE Vernova plans to implement workforce training and knowledge-sharing programs in Vietnam, helping build local capabilities while connecting the Hai Phong site to its global Electrification manufacturing network.

GE Vernova’s equipment supports up to 30% of Vietnam’s electricity needs, reflecting the company’s long-standing presence in the country. Today, GE Vernova employs more than 1,100 people across nine locations in Vietnam, spanning multiple businesses. In addition to the new Hai Phong facility, GE Vernova operates the Phu My repair facility and the Dung Quat HRSG manufacturing plant, which are part of the company’s broader global repair and manufacturing network serving customers worldwide.
