(WK-intern) – A2SEA installs first turbine on Burbo Bank Extension
On 8 September 2016, SEA INSTALLER and her crew installed the first turbine on DONG Energy’s Burbo Bank Extension. This is the first time ever to install the currently biggest turbine on the market, the MHI Vestas 8MW.
The first turbine out of the 32 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines was installed safely on 8 September by the experienced crew on board SEA INSTALLER. For the next months, the vessel will install the turbines being shipped from Belfast. SEA INSTALLER is able to carry four 8MW turbines at a time.
”We were all very excited about the installation of the first turbine. This is the first time ever, MHI Vestas’ 8MW turbine has been installed offshore. We used their new patented lifting tool and our newly extended boom. Our experienced crew did a great job in both handling the new equipment and the new components. Furthermore, the teamwork between A2SEA and MHI Vestas went very smoothly and effectively. Now, we look forward to installing the remaining 31 turbines,” says Jan Riisgaard, Master on board SEA INSTALLER.
Burbo Bank Extension is owned by DONG Energy. The wind farm has a total capacity of 258MW and is situated 6 km from shore. The wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2017 and will provide green energy for well over 230,000 homes in the UK.
A2SEA is the market leader within transportation and installation of offshore wind farms. Since its foundation in 2000, A2SEA has installed approx. 50% of the world’s offshore wind turbines. A2SEA recently completed installing turbines on Gode
