Verbesserte Smart Cable Guard-Technologie für Mittelspannungskabelanlagen senkt die Betriebskosten und erhöht die Zuverlässigkeit

Enhanced Smart Cable Guard technology for medium voltage cable systems reduces operating costs and increases reliability for utilities and industrial asset owners

  • Smart Cable Guard solution continuously monitors and immediately detects the exact location of faults in medium voltage (MV) power cable systems
  • Real-time cable condition information accelerates repair time, increases reliability of MV power cable systems and reduces overall service costs for utilities and industrial asset owners
  • DNV GL launches latest technology advancement of its Smart Cable Guard solution at CEPSI, October 26-30, Korea

(WK-intern) – Jeju, Korea – DNV GL, a leading global energy advisory and testing authority, today announced the latest advancement in its Smart Cable Guard solution.

In addition to the existing capability that allows system operators and industrial asset managers to detect and locate partial discharges on-line, Smart Cable Guard now immediately pinpoints, within 1% accuracy, the exact location of a fault in a MV cable system and reduces the time to repair. With this real-time insight, operators and asset managers can drastically reduce the time customers are affected by faults – and under certain circumstances they can also decrease the frequency by which customers are affected – ultimately cutting overall system costs.

The solution reduces maintenance costs, eliminates power interruption during daily use, mitigates negative publicity and claims, and enhances the operator’s reputation for innovative and reliable grid management. Integrated into one solution, Smart Cable Guard detects and locates any fault and issues an immediate warning, independent of the network grounding and short circuit current level – even if there is no short circuit current flowing. It is also provides the ability to immediately detect the location of intermittent and hidden faults.

“Smart Cable Guard has proved to be a very attractive solution for accurate and quick on-line detection of faults in our network. For this reason, we already guard our circuits using DNV GL’s solution, and there will be more to come,” said Denny Harmsen, Senior Innovation Consultant at Alliander, one of the main Distribution Network Utilities in the Netherlands.

Dr. Fred Steennis, Principal Consultant and Power Cable Expert at DNV GL said, “In urban environments where the cost of power outages is high, medium voltage power cables are the utility’s most important asset while a failure in an industrially-owned setting can cause severe disruption and financial loss. Offline monitoring of these cables is like a security camera that takes a picture once a year, while Smart Cable Guard’s new real-time insight offers operators continuous surveillance of the cable network, and equips them with the right information for immediate action.”

DNV GL invests 5% of its revenue in research and innovation, such as joint industry projects with partners in industry, of which Smart Cable Guard is one.
