Turbine installation completed at West of Duddon Sands

(WK-intern) – SEA INSTALLER completed installation of the 108 WTGs at the West of Duddon Sands Offshore Wind Farm. In addition to the 108 WTGs, SEA INSTALLER installed 30 foundations (MPs and TPs) prior to the WTG installation.

The first turbine was installed 27 September 2013, and after a rough and windy winter at sea, the vessel installed 44 WTGs within the last 63 days alone – including transit and load-out in Belfast.

“This is an outstanding performance by the crew on board SEA INSTALLER, the project team and our colleagues at Siemens Wind Power. It is a true example of our Team-Built culture at A2SEA, ” says CEO Jens Frederik Hansen.

SEA INSTALLER will now be heading for Frederikshavn, Denmark, where she will mobilise for the Borkum Riffgrund 1 project, which counts 77 Siemens 4.0MW turbines.

The West of Duddon Sands Offshore Wind Farm is located in the East Irish Sea approximately 14 km from the nearest coast on Walney Island, Cumbria. It is a 50/50 joint venture between DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables and the offshore wind farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2014.
