Siemens steht weiterhin zur Desertec Industrie-Initiative

Paul van Son, CEO of Dii, invites you to the 3rd Dii Desert Energy Conference to be held in Berlin, from 7-9 November 2012. For more information please go to the official conference website: http://www.dii-eumena.com/conference/ In our recently published long-term strategy "Desert Power 2050", we propose a unique solution to the future European, Middle Eastern and North African energy supply challenges. This involves moving beyond the currently predominant view of these three regions being separate entities with separate power systems (EU-ME-NA) and creating a united EUMENA renewable energy power system by 2050. A connected system would provide access to a secure, affordable and clean electricity supply for more than 1.2 billion people in 2050, this being the Desertec Vision. This long-term perspective is promising, challenging and in fact, highly needed. High-level international representatives from the political and scientific communities, civil society and industry will meet at the 3rd Dii Desert Energy Conference to discuss this objective and identify the steps needed to reach our goal. We are currently focusing our activities on a number of countries in which the first Reference Projects are being defined, these being; Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The projects´ progress and challenges being faced will be discussed at our event. The conference will highlight that Desertec is not only about a sustainable power system but also about the positive socio-economic impacts which can be achieved. In this context, it will also be discussed how to involve the local people in this transformation. With this in mind, Dii will organize two awards: a Journalist Fellowship recognizing outstanding journalistic work on renewable energy and the Desertec Best Paper Award, together with the Desertec University Network, which rewards excellent academic work in the same field. Given the current climate of change, we truly believe that a sustainable and economic EUMENA power system can ultimately be achieved by 2050 if key players from the three regions act now. Meet us in Berlin to help shape EUMENA energy partnerships which know no bounds!
